Ambergris Caye, Belize is a fly fisherman's paradise.  Here you can aim for the grand slam - Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon and your chance of getting it is very good.

We have an abundance of bonefish and tarpon can actually be found year round as well.  The many flats, mangrove estuaries and shallow reefs make for a perfect home for these gamefish.  There is also the often encounter with other fish species like snook, cobia and jacks.  Also plenty of action can be had with the large schools of ladyfish by the cuts.

You will need a 7 to 8 wt rod for bonefish, 8 wt for permit and a good saltwater reel.  About 200 yds of line around 6 lb. test for bonefish to 25 lb. test for tarpon.
Most people bring their own gear for fly fishing but the guide will usually have some too.  We recommend you bring your own that your are used to handling.
For those wanting to catch these fish but are not fly fishermen, you can enjoy the action with spinning reels too. The guides have the spinning gear.

Belize's beautiful turquoise waters are crystal clear and this makes sight casting for your fish the way to go.  Most of the fly fishing is done from the bow of the boat.  Occasionally wading is done in some areas too.  Charter  boats for fly fishing go in very shallow water and your guide will pole the boat to bring you to fish.  Two fishermen per boats is the norm.

Bonefish, permit and tarpon are for catch and release.
